Overview of the faculty of Social Sciences and Economics
The faculty of Social Sciences and Economics is one of the ten faculties of Alzahra University established at 1968 on the base of courses in accounting and secretary ship fields since the establishment of the university. In 1971 these two fields were divided into two independent majors, namely official services and accounting. After that the faculty was developed quickly and renamed as faculty of social sciences and economics since 1986.
Nowadays, the faculty of Social Sciences and Economics is the largest faculty in terms of student and academic staff in Alzahra University. Presently the student body consists of approximately 1800 people (of which 800 master and 120 PhD students). The teaching staff includes 54 full, associate and assistant professors, as well as more than 40 teaching assistants and visiting lecturers. Actually, at the moment half of the full-time academic faculty members are full and associate professors that many articles are published by them in international and scientific journals as well as conferences.
Despite the fact that the ratio of students per instructor is unusually high in our faculty, the quality of teaching is viewed as very satisfactory by students who are often called upon to complete course-evaluation forms and assess teacher performance and instructional materials used. Faculty members make systematic attempts to use new approaches to teaching and self-access learning and to involve students in further educational tasks through group and individual project work.
The quality of the faculty members’ scholarly work has gained national and international recognition through publication of articles in national and internationally-accredited journals. A considerable number of members are invited to participate and present their research results in conferences, both in Iran and abroad. A number of our Faculty members participate in the advisory or editorial boards of national international journals and are invited to evaluate papers and books for possible publication.
The faculty perform systematic research through two research institutes, 5 scientific journals and annual and quarterly national and international conferences, workshops and speeches in Accounting, Economics, of Management, Women Studies, Social Sciences and Law.
The faculty comprises 6 departments with 24 fields of study in different levels consists of B.A., M.A. and PhD programs. Each department offers courses, educational programs and research opportunities related to particular areas of academic and educational concern.
The faculty is situated in Alzahra university Campus, in Vanak region located in one of the nice areas at north of Tehran.
